Michigan DNR gets grant to combat Phragmites

Phragmites is an extremely invasive wetland weed that has plagued many states around the US including Michigan.  In the 1970s my father working at Michigan State started to study the spread of this weed and found it rapidly advancing throughout Michigan wetlands.  We did quite a bit of research work on the Detroit River dredge spoils islands to understand this noxious weed.  It looks like the hard work of the Michigan DNR staff to secure funding to combat this weed in some areas of the state have paid off.  They look to get about $500,000.00 to treat a number of key wetland areas in the state using a combination of glyphosate and imazypr.  For more information see this link:
